The Osun State Internal Revenue Service (OIRS) has announced that it will begin clamping down on businesses that have failed to fulfil their tax obligations to the government.
During an awareness campaign held in Osogbo, the chairman of OIRS, Mr. Adesola Adewumi who was represented by the Director Legal and Enforcement of the Agency, Mr. Deji Atoyebi stated that by Monday, the government would seal off defaulting business premises.
Adewumi gave all tax defaulting businesses in the state another grace period to pay up their dues before the clamp down would begin.
He advised tax defaulters who have received bills to settle their tax liabilities to avoid interruptions in their operations.
The OIRS chairman said the statewide enforcement was due by May and that the board had concluded plans to begin tax enforcement against defaulters if they continue to fail in fulfilling their tax obligations to the state government.
Businesses have been served with harmonised demand notices to do the needful before the state would embark on enforcement/closure to bring the defaulters to book.
Tax defaulters who have not received a harmonized demand notice were advised to go to any OIRS tax station nearest to them or visit www.ecg.ng/requestosunbill to request for their bill immediately.
