Nigerian Customs on track to Exceed N5 Trillion Revenue Target

The Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has disclosed that the Service is expected to surpass its revenue target of N5.079 trillion in 2024.

Adeniyi who addressed the Senate Committee on Customs while presenting the NCS's 2024 budget, justified the N706 billion budget by emphasizing the importance of consolidating carried-over projects, improving staff welfare, motivating officers' performance, and integrating technologies into Customs processes.

In his outline, he highlighted the strategies that he believed would lead to the achievement of the 2024 target, including the implementation of the National Single Window championed by the Federal Ministry of Finance. 

Among other strategies, he also stressed the importance of harmonizing and standardizing Customs processes, decongesting ports, collaborating with other agencies for efficiency and competitiveness, conducting anti-smuggling operations, incorporating ICT into operations, investing in capacity building, and engaging stakeholders.

He stressed the importance of supporting local production and taking food security seriously.
