In a statement by Olusola Abiola, the Director of Information at the Office of the Vice President, it was disclosed that Shettima made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the Republic of Korea at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The delegation, led by the Special Envoy to the President of the Republic of Korea, Jang Sungmin, discussed the existing robust bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Korea, built on years of mutual trust and cooperation.

During a meeting with a delegation from the Republic of Korea, Vice President Kashim Shettima highlighted the remarkable transformation of Korea's economy over the years.

He emphasized that while Korea's GDP was once comparable to many African countries in the 1950s and 1960s, it has since become a developed nation through strong leadership and unwavering commitment.

Shettima also expressed Nigeria's willingness to collaborate with Korea, particularly in the field of technology, as global talent deficits are projected to reach 65 percent by 2030, affecting countries such as the United States, Russia, and Brazil.

The vice president emphasized that the current administration's primary focus is on security and economic development while assuring the Korean delegation that President Bola Tinubu would accept the invitation from his Korean counterpart to attend the Africa-Korea summit in 2024.

“ Korea has always supported us in the international fora and we have that obligation to reciprocate by supporting Korean businesses operating in Nigeria.

“Be rest assured that Nigeria truly appreciates the Republic of Korea support to Nigeria in multilateral institutions, in the UN General Assembly, in our quest for a seat in the Security Council and in several UN bodies,” he said.
