
The trade volume between Nigeria and China surpassed $20 billion in 2024, as announced by the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai. This revelation was made during the celebration of the 2025 Chinese Lunar New Year at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Abuja.
Ambassador Yu emphasized Nigeria's pivotal role in China's trade relations within Africa, stating, "Last year, the trade volume between China and Nigeria exceeded $20 billion.
Nigeria is our largest engineering contract partner, the second-largest export market, and the third-largest trade partner in Africa." He expressed a hopeful outlook for future collaborations, highlighting the significant potential he sees in Nigeria for increasing trade.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the relationship between China and Nigeria has recently been elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership, following President Xi Jinping's state visit to Nigeria.
Oraeluno Obi Raphael, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, commended the expanding economic and cultural partnership between China and Nigeria.
e noted that China's contributions to Nigeria's cultural and tourism sectors have been substantial. Raphael remarked that collaborative efforts in trade, tourism, and the creative economy have enriched both societies and fostered avenues for economic growth and mutual prosperity.
