Gazprom, the Russian state-owned oil and gas company, has revealed plans to commission a new facility capable of producing 32 billion cubic meters (1.13 trillion cubic feet) of gas annually by 2024. Dmitry Stratov, the deputy director general for prospective development at Gazprom's subsidiary, Gazprom Dobycha Nadym, disclosed this information during a press tour of the Bovanenkovskoye field facilities for journalists and experts from African countries. The tour commenced on July 18, 2023.

The upcoming facility will be located at the Kharasaveyskoye field, boasting an impressive gas reserve of 2 trillion cubic meters. Situated on the western coast of the Yamal Peninsula (Kharasavey Cape), the Kharasaveyskoye field is considered the second backbone field of the Yamal gas production center, positioned 100 kilometers away from Bovanenkovo.

The discovery of the Kharasaveyskoye field dates back to 1974, and full-scale development commenced in March 2019. The construction activities involved the establishment of a comprehensive gas treatment unit, a booster compressor station, production well clusters, as well as transportation and power infrastructure.

To transport the gas from Kharasavey, a dedicated connecting gas pipeline will link the field to the Bovanenkovskoye field, from where it will be further pumped into the Unified Gas Supply System.

Stratov expressed confidence in the longevity of the Kharasaveyskoye field's productivity, estimating that it would continue producing gas and condensate for the next hundred years. He remarked, "Kharasaveyskoye field is forecasted to keep production after the commissioning till 2131."

Gazprom Dobycha Nadym, a subsidiary of Gazprom, has a significant history, having been established on December 1, 1971, by the order of the USSR Ministry of Gas Industry. Headquartered in Nadym, in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area, the company operates through 14 branches.

The development of the Kharasaveyskoye field and the commissioning of the new gas facility signify a major milestone in Gazprom's efforts to enhance its gas production capacity. As the world's largest natural gas extractor, Gazprom continues to play a crucial role in meeting global energy demands. The upcoming facility's increased gas production will not only strengthen Russia's position in the global gas market but also contribute to addressing the growing energy needs of various regions worldwide.
