The Federal Government has withdrawn its plan to sell 50kg bags of rice at a subsidized price of N40,000 to civil servants across the Nation.
The decision was communicated through a circular from Aderonke Jaiyesimi, the Director of Human Resources at the Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs.
This internal circular, dated August 2, 2024, was addressed to all directors and heads of departments. Jaiyesimi stated that the previous circular regarding the sale is now withdrawn, and further details will follow.
She requested that the contents of the circular be shared with staff for their information and guidance.
Previously, the ministry had invited civil servants to register for the subsidized rice by completing a Google form on the OHCSF website.
The plan included coordination of payment and distribution by designated offices, with oversight from the Chairman of the Joint Union Council to ensure transparency.
The initiative aimed to address the ongoing food crisis, with the Minister of Information, Muhammed Idris, emphasizing efforts to ease living conditions for citizens.
Despite the government's establishment of centers for purchasing the rice, the abrupt withdrawal of the plan has left many civil servants uncertain.
