Three Points Secured for Liverpool as Sallah Nets a Lone Goal

The Egyptian forward's winning goal was also his 100th for the Reds at Anfield, making him the only player in club history to score in nine straight home games in all competitions.

Mohammed Sallah maintained his outstanding scoring run as Liverpool defeated Brentford to make it six straight victories in the Premier League and close the gap on Manchester United in the battle for the top four to one point.

The goal Salah attempted in the 13th minute, which came after Virgil van Dijk's cushioned header across the six-yard box, was not the most spectacular of his career. Salah bundled the ball over the line from close range.

However, Salah's 30th goal of the year gave Jurgen Klopp's team the momentum they needed to secure another significant victory, maintaining Liverpool's slim chance of making the playoffs.

Liverpool has 62 points, one fewer than fourth-placed Manchester United, who has two games remaining, one of which is on Sunday (19:00 BST) at struggling West Ham United.

Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford thought he had equalized at a lively Anfield, but the goal was disallowed for offside after a video assistant referee assessment, and Cody Gakpo squandered a fantastic opportunity to make it 2-0 after the half from point-blank range.

Although the club acknowledged that certain fans "have strong views on it," several Liverpool supporters booed the national anthem before the game as a tribute to King Charles III on the day of his coronation.
