Age-Suleiman took the oath of office on Wednesday before the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, and other lawmakers just before the presentation of the 2024 budget by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

With this oath, he replaces Olukayode Doherty of the Labour Party who was recently sacked by the Court of Appeal.

Earlier, the Clerk of the House, Mr Olalekan Onafeko, read a letter transmitted to the House by the Independent National Electoral Commission notifying the House of the withdrawal of the Certificate of Return issued to Doherty.

INEC stated in the letter that the action was in compliance with the judgment of the Court of Appeal which ordered the election umpire to withdraw the Certificate of Return it issued to Doherty and issue a fresh one to Age-Suleiman as the validly elected representative of Amuwo-Odofin Constituency 2 at the Assembly.

Obasa, while welcoming Age-Suleiman, urged the lawmaker to cooperate with his colleagues and constantly remember those who he represents.

The Speaker also hinted that there might be a rejig in the leadership of committees of the House, noting that “with the return of a ranking member like Age-Suleiman, that is expected.”

He, however, assured members of the House that everyone’s interest would be taken care of in the scheme of things.

Obasa also congratulated the governor, the APC, and the people of Amuwo-Odofin, saying that with the oath of office, the ruling party now has 39 members in the House."
