One year old baby girl killed in fire at Mataheko, Accra

A one-year-old baby girl has been burnt to death in a fire that gutted two wooden structures in a house at Mataheko, near the Mars Business School, in Accra.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, January, 11, 2022. According to some witnesses at the scene, the baby was asleep in one of the structures when the fire started.

The body of the deceased has since been handed over to the police and deposited at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital morgue for further investigation.

No other fatalities have been reported by the other occupants of the affected structures.

Fire personnel from the Regional Headquarters Sub-Station and Kwame Nkrumah Circle Fire Station were dispatched to fight the fire.

They stated that they had to ask the ECG to temporarily cut power as part of precautionary measures until the issue is resolved.

“A one-year old baby girl has tragically been lost to the inferno,” an official of the Fire Service stated.

He explained, “the burnt body has been handed over to the Police to deposit the remains at the Korle-Bu morgue for preservation and further investigation”.
