On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to leave Abuja for Addis Ababa to participate in the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government, according to a statement released on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
The statement, bearing the title 'President Tinubu to attend 37th AU summit in Addis Ababa,' indicated that Tinubu would partake in discussions centering on the African Union's institutional reforms, as well as issues pertaining to peace and security.
The session will touch on pertinent issues like climate change and the African Union's engagement with the G20. The theme for this year's summit is 'Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa.'
Additionally, President Tinubu is set to join an extraordinary ECOWAS summit in his role as the Chairman of the regional bloc. The president's delegation will include ministers and high-ranking officials. Tinubu, who has been in office for nine months, is anticipated to return to Abuja after the summit.
This visit to Ethiopia marks President Tinubu's fourth African trip and his 15th international destination, with a total of 11 trips outside the country. His previous visits have included multiple trips to Paris, France; London, UK; Bissau, Guinea-Bissau; Nairobi, Kenya; Porto-Novo, Benin; New Delhi, India; Abu Dhabi and Dubai, UAE; New York, USA; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; and Berlin, Germany.
