Taraba State Sets N70,000 Minimum Wage Ahead of NLC Strike

The Taraba State government has officially approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 for its civil servants, set to take effect in November 2024.

This decision comes as a direct response to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) issuing a strike notice for states that have not yet implemented the updated national minimum wage.

Paul Maigida Tino, the state Head of Service, announced the approval, highlighting the government's commitment to enhancing the welfare of its workforce. "His Excellency, Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, has approved the implementation of a N70,000 new minimum wage for workers in Taraba State," Tino stated.

While many civil servants have welcomed this development, there are calls for the government to ensure timely implementation and to resume annual salary increments that have been suspended.
