The Niger State Police Command has detained 12 alleged armed robbers who were terrorizing Minna, the state capital.

Criminals between the ages of 15 and 20 have been terrorizing town residents for the past few months by robbing them of their possessions both day and night.

Muhammed Bago, the state governor, was alarmed by this trend and gave 20 Hilux trucks to all security personnel to flush out the criminals operating in Minna, the state capital.

The Tactical Support Team of the Command sprang into action last week and apprehended some of the suspects based on intelligence learned about some of the suspects' operations.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspects had been stealing motorcycles and cell phones primarily at night in Minna Metropolis neighborhoods such as Barkin-Sale, Kpakungu, Shiroro Road, Mandela Road, Soje-A, Sauka-Kahuta, and its surroundings.

The police team was directed by the suspects to four receivers, which held the majority of the phones.

One of the suspects is reportedly still at large and specializes in erasing the IMEI numbers from stolen phones.

Five people who had received the stolen motorcycles and lived in Paiko, Paikoro local government area of the state and had purchased them from them for between N80,000 and N120,000 have also been arrested as a result of their confessional testimonies.

They were found with three motorcycles—one Bajaj and two Jincheng.

Wasiu Abiodun, a spokesman for the state police command, stated that all suspects were still being questioned and would be brought to court as soon as the investigation was complete.
