Doyin Odebowale, the former Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties and Strategy to late Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, revealed in an interview with media personnel Segun Olawoye that Akeredolu was perceived as weak in matters involving his wife, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu.
Odebowale, a longtime friend of the former governor, claimed responsibility for writing Akeredolu's campaign materials in 2012.
Regarding Anyanwu-Akeredolu's actions, Odebowale confronted her over cultural differences when she threatened Olubunmi Ademosu, a special adviser to the late governor.
Expressing displeasure, he highlighted her accusations captured on tape, where she accused the special adviser of providing concoctions for Akeredolu's health.
Odebowale, he stated, "On his wife’s management, Aketi was a weakling," and criticized the concept of the First Lady's office, saying, "No office as the office of the First Lady. Aketi shouldn’t have allowed it."
Dispelling rumors of delayed announcement of Akeredolu's death, Odebowale mentioned learning about it when inundated with calls for confirmation. He clarified that Akeredolu's immediate younger brother, Prof Wole Akeredolu, was the last person to speak with the late governor before his demise.
Addressing his resignation along with other officials, Odebowale denied having anything to hide, refuting claims of squandering state funds. He expressed that his resignation was motivated by loyalty to his late boss, stating, "I have nothing left to do in the office when the person who brought me there is no longer there."
