He emphasized that these issues persist particularly in villages near the borders with Kaduna, Kebbi, Katsina, and Zamfara states. The police chief made these remarks during a meeting with the Assistant Inspector General of Police responsible for Zone 7, AIG Adeboeale Willaims, held at the command's headquarters on Tuesday.
He said, “As mentioned earlier, insurgency, armed banditry and kidnapping cases remain a challenge in villages bordering Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi and Zamfara States. Our attention has always been on Mariga, Rafi, Munya, Rijau, and Shiroro Local Government Areas.
“Usually experienced in Minna and Kontagora parts of the State, the Command had embarked on massive raids of black spots in conjunction with other security agencies in the state through which many of the thugs disturbing the peace in the metropolis were arrested and prosecuted. This has ensured relative peace in the metropolis, while close monitoring continues.”
In addition, Ayodeji presented the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) with the command's requirements, emphasizing that fulfilling these needs would enhance their work and boost the morale of the operatives.
Responding to the concerns raised, AIG Williams acknowledged that the police force is currently facing significant challenges nationwide, as they are responsible for maintaining peace in various states.
He stressed the importance of equipping law enforcement with the necessary logistics and capabilities to effectively combat insecurity. The AIG assured the command that the Police High Command would address their needs to strengthen their efforts in ensuring peace and security in Niger State.
