The Osun State Police Command has banned commercial motorcyclists, often known as okada, from wearing hoods or facemasks in the state.

The command's spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, made the announcement to press on Monday in Osogbo, Osun State's capital.

“The decision was taken by the command to curb the criminal activities involving the use of motorcycles in the state,” Opalola said.

She also urged the state's okada riders' association to warn its members from covering their heads and faces in any way while riding their motorcycles.

“The command has plans and strategies on how to arrest and prosecute anyone that acts against the rules,” the police spokesperson said.

Opalola urged members of the public not to board the motorcycles or hire any commercial rider wearing a hood or facemask.
