A High Court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has granted Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State, bail in the amount of N500 million following his detention since December 10.

The ruling, delivered by Justice Maryann Anenih on Thursday, stipulates that Bello must provide three sureties, each also valued at N500 million, who own properties in high-value areas of Abuja.

In addition to the bail conditions, the court ordered Bello to surrender his international travel documents and prohibited him from leaving Nigeria without prior approval.

Bello is currently facing serious allegations related to a N110 billion fraud, with a total of 16 charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). These charges include conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and possession of unlawfully obtained property.

The EFCC claims that Bello misappropriated state funds to acquire several properties, including a mansion in Maitama valued at N950 million and various other real estate holdings in Abuja and Dubai.

The defendants are also accused of transferring substantial amounts of money to foreign banks and possessing illegally obtained assets.
