The grieving students have expressed their concerns regarding the services provided at the University Health Centre. This demonstration caused significant traffic congestion on the Akure/Ilesa highway as students voiced their discontent over their colleague's tragic passing.

According to reports, Ayomide Akeredolu collapsed in his hostel and was immediately rushed to the health centre by his peers around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. A student who spoke to journalists in Akure alleged that the victim passed away in the university health centre due to inadequate care. The student claimed that there was a lack of power supply during the medical intervention at the health centre, and doctors had to attend to him using their phone flashlights.

The student further mentioned, "Additionally, earlier yesterday, the health center declined to treat another student, a former FUTASU Vice President, who was in a critical condition and required urgent attention because she didn't have her identity card."

The students chose to express their dissatisfaction through a peaceful protest, highlighting the urgent need for improvements to the university's health care centre.

In response to the protests, the institution mourned the student's sudden passing due to a severe bout of illness. The institution's Director of Corporate Communication, Adegbenro Adebanjo, released a statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding the incident. According to Adebanjo, the victim "slumped in his hostel and all attempts and medical intervention at resuscitation even at the Health Centre failed, with the doctors recording that he was brought in dead."

Adebanjo explained that the student was rushed to the Health Centre around 8:50 p.m. on August 24, 2023, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. He was then transferred to the UNIMED Teaching Hospital, Akure, using the university ambulance.

The management acknowledged the students' grief and devastation, expressing their condolences to the bereaved family and friends. In response to the perceived issues with services at the University Health Centre, students organized a protest on August 25, 2023. It's important to note that the protest was not directly linked to the student's passing.
