28 Persons Die of Hepatitis in Nasarawa

The incident inflicted fear in the residents as they request for the attention of health workers.

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has urged Governor Abdullahi Sule to declare a state of emergency on the outbreak of Hepatitis in the State, in order to lecture people about the fatal disease.

The plea comes following the passing on of 28 individuals in the Ekeh development area of Doma Local Government Area of the state.

During a crucial session of the Assembly on Monday, Musa Ibrahim, the representative of Doma South constituency where Ekeh development area is located, brought forth the destructive impact of hepatitis, confirming the loss of 28 lives thus far.

He stressed the need for urgent measures to curb the increase of the deadly disease in the state.

In agreement with Ibrahim’s motion, the assembly  members, including Ven Bawa Lari, Daniel Oga Ogazi, and Hon. Solomon Akwashiki, echoed the sentiment that the circumstances need immediate attention and intercession from the state government.

Reacting to the state of the circumstances, the speaker Danladi Jatau stressed the need for urgent intervention, stating: “A state of emergency should be declared on hepatitis and other fatal diseases in the state.”

He stressed the need to mobilize a team of professionals to investigate the outbreak and prevent further mortality.

His words: “It is necessary that Governor Sule swiftly set up a team of professionals to visit the locale to prevent further increase of the disease.”

The urgency of the situation was palpable as the Assembly members rallied behind the call for decisive action. 

It was gathered that the spread of hepatitis in Nasarawa State has sent shockwaves throughout the zone, prompting widespread concern among residents and health workers alike.
